Glenbrook CablesCL&P is building two new underground 115-kilovolt (kV) electric transmission lines that will run under streets from Stamford, through Darien to Norwalk (see general project map or detailed maps showing current construction PDF (103 KB) ). The project is needed to provide a reliable electric supply in southwest Fairfield County, and to assure the area's electric grid conforms to national and regional reliability criteria.

Route length:8.7 miles
Line voltage:115,000 volts (115-kV). Read more about the technology of the project.
Municipalities along the route: Stamford, Darien, Norwalk
Cost: Estimated $223 million.
Regulatory review by: The Connecticut Siting Council, Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
Timetable:
  • Regulatory review began March 2004
  • Planning, September 2005 – August 2006
  • Trenching & cable installation, October 2006 – September 2008
