Long Island Replacement Cable

CL&P is replacing seven fluid-filled transmission cables between Norwalk, Connecticut, and Northport, New York, with three new solid-core (non-fluid filled) cables. The replacement cables will significantly improve reliability of service to both states and reduce environmental impacts resulting from damage of the existing cables. Length:11 miles
Operating voltage:138,000 volts
Cable specifications:Solid dielectric (i.e., plastic insulation), copper conductor. The replacement will consist of three cables.
Installation:Buried approximately six feet into the seabed.
Cost:NU's share of the project cost is an estimated $72 million.
Regulatory review by:Connecticut: The Connecticut Siting Council, Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control, Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection
New York: New York Public Service Commission and Department of Environmental Conservation
Federal: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Timetable:
