What's Being Built in Cheshire

Note that the descriptions below are typical designs for your area and do not represent the specific structure design and height being constructed on the right of way on your property. For property-specific information, call our Project Hotline at 1-866-MID-NORW (643-6679). Detailed design plans can also be obtained from your town hall or from the Connecticut Siting Council.

Overhead Lines
The right of way (ROW) in Cheshire covers a distance of 0.9 miles. The 0.5 mile section from the Wallingford town line to Cook Hill Junction is 200 feet wide. The existing double circuit 115-kV lattice structure will be replaced with a single double-circuit steel monopole (typical height, 130 feet) that will carry the new 345-kV circuit and one of the existing 115-kV circuits. The remaining 115-kV circuit will be placed underground starting at a transition structure just east of Old Farms Road.

The 0.4 mile section that runs from Cook Hill Junction to the Hamden town line is 165 feet wide. Today, there are three 115-kV overhead transmission structures on this ROW: two wood H-Frames and one steel lattice structure. The three existing overhead structures are being removed and replaced with one new steel monopole. This structure will carry the new 345-kV line and one of the existing 115-kV circuits. The other 115-kV circuit will be buried underground just past the Hamden town line.

Underground Line
