What's Being Built in Norwalk

Underground Lines
In Norwalk, two new 345-kV transmission lines will be installed underground in a single duct bank. The route, from northeast to southwest, follows:

  • Westport Avenue (US Route 1) - from Westport town line to North Avenue
  • North Avenue (US Route 1) - from Westport Avenue to Father Conlon Place
  • Main Street (CT Route 123) – from Father Conlon Place to south of Ohio Ave
  • Off of Main Street passing under the Danbury Branch of the Metro North Railroad and emerging on Grand Street
  • Grand Street – From Tindale Ave to New Canaan Ave (CT 123)
  • New Canaan Ave (CT 123) from Grand Street to Norwalk Substation (located near the south bound side of Exit 2 off of Route 7)

Norwalk Substation
Two additional underground line circuits (From Singer Substation) and new 345-kV to 115-kV auto-transformers will complete the Middletown-Norwalk Project into southwest Connecticut. The existing 345-kV portion of the Norwalk Substation is an indoor gas-insulated substation providing a tie line into the existing 345-kV outdoor Norwalk Substation. The required gas-insulated equipment for this project will be constructed within the existing building and will add a second tie to the southwest Connecticut 115-kV transmission system.
