CL&P's 1990 Line project is a structure replacement project along 21 miles of existing 115-kV transmission rights-of-way. All major construction on the project is complete. Project crews will continue to be in the right-of-way in some areas conducting remaining restoration activities. We expect to complete restoration by mid-2015.

There were two major components to the project:

  • The 18-mile-long Main Section runs from Watertown south through Waterbury, Middlebury and Oxford to the Stevenson Dam in Monroe, Conn. This corridor includes two rows of existing steel lattice structures, and only the easterly set of aging steel lattice structures were replaced with a single row of steel monopoles of similar height.
  • The 3-mile-long Baldwin Section runs from Middlebury to the east across I-84 and Route 8 to the Baldwin Station in Waterbury. This corridor includes a single row of aging steel lattice structures that were replaced with a single row of steel monopoles of similar height.
  • 3rd Quarter 2012 - Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) permit approval received
  • March 1, 2013 - Connecticut Siting Council (CSC) Petition filing
  • June 13, 2013 - CSC Petition approval
  • July 25, 2013 - Development & Management Plan approved by the CSC
  • 3rd Quarter 2013 - Army Corps of Engineers ruling on CL&P permit request for jurisdictional areas
  • Mid-August 2013 - Construction starts
  • November 1, 2014 - Major construction complete
  • December 2014 - Project in service
  • Mid-2015 - Restoration complete
