Department of Public Utilities Decision - March 19, 2010
The following document is the decision from the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) regarding the Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECO) petitions filed with the DPU for the Agawam - West Springfield Circuit Separation Project.
On March 13, 2009, WMECO filed a petition to separate two high-voltage circuits which currently occupy the same towers, and place each circuit on its own set of new monopole transmission structures. This work will take place within the same 2.5 mile WMECO right-of-way between the Agawam and West Springfield substations.
On March 13, 2009, WMECO also filed a related petition seeking specific and comprehensive exemptions from the local Zoning Ordinances in Agawam and West Springfield associated with the proposed project.
The DPU issued its approval of both decisions, with some conditions, on March 19, 2010.
